My parents always get angry at me if I don't go say hi to them.
For example when they pick me up from school I just hop into the car without saying anything, or in the mornings when I'm getting breakfast and they walk into the kitchen most of the time I don't notice them, but if I do I don't think about 'greeting' them.

I really don't get why they make such a big fuss about it. I think they just have an old fashioned sense of manners.

Does anyone else's parents get angry about 'manners'?

Hopping into the car without greeting them is kind of rude. It comes across, even if that isn't your intention, as though you're treating them like some kind of servant who you don't even have to acknowledge.

When you greet someone you acknowledge their presence, to not do this is to (western culture) is to deliberatly shut people out, telling them that you do not care about them or take note of their contribution. You should infact be very glad that they keep pointing this out to you, since greetings are generaly only offered to people (northen european culture) to people in your group, and if your parents consider you a part of their group it's a very good possibility they won't kick you out and forget about you when you're 18.

You live in their house, eat their food and ride in their car, you can really afford to show some gratitude.

This is not old fashion, it's current fashion.

Nope, plus having a habbit of not greeting people can make it very difficult to maintain a job since most employers value social skills over working skills, interesting idea I know, but I guess that gossip in the coffe room ain't gonna spread itself.

Nothing is stupid the first time around, it's only what you know that is obvious. ^^

I never liked saying "Hi" to my parents either, since they would keep saying "Hi even louder when I walked in the house until I responded loud enough for them to hear.

Silvervarg is right. I knew though that it was rude, but sometimes, I just needed a break coming back home... I tended to be pretty exhausted from school and sometimes just wanted to be left alone.

My parents are never upset when I don't greet them, my grandparents do.

My parents get angry when I do greet them. My mother is very apathetic and I've learned to avoid greeting her because usually after she says hi she tells me all the problems she had with my little brother and then proceeds to tell me they're all my fault because I have a bad attitude.

They used to, when they were alive

At least once, I greeted them, but they didn't hear (deaf). Then they got angry

It is a "miscommunication", but every stupid ass "miscommunication" results in me getting injured
