Mitt Romney offered rare praise for President Barack Obama Sunday, telling supporters at a San Francisco fundraiser that his opponent did "the right thing" by traveling to Colorado to meet with family members of those killed in Friday's shooting.
"I know the president is in Colorado today before he'll be here in San Francisco. He's visiting with families of the victims, which is the right thing for the president to be doing on this day, and we appreciate that," Romney said.
That is really, really odd. I wonder if Mr. Romney is ill today? His normal reaction is to be hypercritical of
anything the president does.
It would be nice if it didn't take a tragedy to get politicians to talk about kindness and compassion. It's also frustrating that human suffering is only noticed in these kinds of high profile events. Otherwise it's back to the dehumanizing blame games. Death, hardship, and suffering that goes on under the radar is pretty much ignored. Like the son of a friend of my mother's who, after running out of gas in the middle of nowhere, had a psychotic break and ended up dead on the side of the road, due to the stress of being unemployed and having no money.
