Oh yeah? My 6th grade reading teacher was much much worse. She seemed to think that a bunch of 11 and 12 year-olds couldn't read! She gave us these silly reader's handbooks that basically said, "If you don't know how to read, read this book and we'll tell you how to read!". It was soooooo dumb and they made you go through this long thought process in which you examined each and every word as an artform. For example:

You read the word "the". Imagine the word "the" in your mind. The word "the" is an art, a form of communication through descriptive mindpower!

Oh giveth me a break!

Oh and by the way, at the end of the year, I had a D+ in her class. Blech.

This topic should be locked, it's not a very kid-friendly topic.

Oh, I forgot. You're an angsty ten year old who thinks his life is miserable and wishes to complain to everyone about how completely intolerable a human being he is. Yeah, I'm sure you enjoy this thread.

I didn't so much hate fractions as that i liked decimals. I managed to avoid learning fractions until 4th grade.

This thread is a venting thread. You're all allowed to be pissed off about your difficulties, but i want to stress to you that life doesn't really suck, you are just frustrated. It is unfortunate that the culture is such that children are treated so condescendingly. Try thinking about life like this: Instead of being the victim of a poorly designed world. Be an observer and a vistor. They'll have you do things which are obviously stupid and pointless, and that is okay. Be happier in that you know that. Teachers and parents are not all powerful beings. Most often their opinion is equal to your own. The system just happens to be that we go with their judgment so that progress can be made.

When you get older and can free yourself from the boundries of the system, then you can help effect change on these systems, but until then, just chill out with your superior understanding.

I liked maths in primary school but didn't like it in high school because the teacher went too fast and I couldn't keep up. I spent the lessons drawing pictures in my exercise book and the teacher didn't even care.

It would have been a good idea to have a tutor but I was too embarrassed to tell my parents how bad I was doing because I was good in all my other subjects.

I think having a personal tutor often is a good idea if you're having trouble in a school subject but they have to be nice and have patience. I used to have trouble retrieving information when I needed it for an exam but then ages later, I would remember it (this is maths I am talking about).

I liked maths using figures but not symbols.
