I have seen electricians put hundreds of these bulbs in a cardboard box, seal it up and drive over it, then throw it in some random dumpster

I just throw them out when they quit working, or if one breaks, I just sweep it up and throw the debris in the trash. The whole recycle thing is less about the environment and more about money and taxes.
