I fail to see how the father is abusive.

The father was probably too hard on her, which parents do from time to time.
She probably had other life issues and this was the final straw.

I've known people to punishment their children harder than that, including my own mother and my dad's family.

I fail to see how that is a 'punishment'....I mean what offense would that even be a consequence for. Either way its highly inappropriate for parents to film and upload a video of them 'punishing' their child to youtube....I mean I wonder what other sorts of crap she had to deal with from these parents if they're willing to make something like that public to shame her. Hard to say if the father was abusive or not from one incident, but its not like its unheard of for people to have mentally and/or physically abusive parents. Maybe the video was just a bad idea and the first incident like it...then again maybe not.

Would people preferred it if he would have used good ole fashion corporal punishment?

How bout making her work all day in the yard and no food until the punishment is ended (This is traditional American punishment that old people had in the day)
How bout banning her from all non educational activity?

if he were an honest and decent man, he would not have deleted his web browsing history, he would have OWNED what he did, he would have said, "this is how I raise my children." IOW he was just being a sneaky bastard. if he did not publicize his punishment of his daughter [IMHO the straw which broke the camel's back], it is conceivable that this whole ugly mess would not have happened. that he did what he did speaks volumes of his unfitness as a parent and his lack of common decency as a human being. common sense would dictate that you don't publically shame your child! if he had any imagination at all, there is a world of things he could have done in place of what he did, which would not represent the bona fide child abuse for which he is being criticized.

People regularly shame their children publicly.
It's one of the oldest known punishments in the world.
Why do you think those over 40 are constantly obsessing over being judged by everyone?

His daughter was unstable and no one knew!
She would have eventually committed suicide over something else, unless she was interned somewhere.
It doesn't help that family didn't know and that teenage girls and women are horrible to each other.

People and companies regularly delete YouTube videos when the reaction is overly negative, this nothing new.

The father he has done nothing illegal, which child abuse is in every state.

Though it is quite obvious his daughter was unstable and kept it hidden from everyone.

Hey teenage daughter who already has anxiety and depression issues, I'm going to cut off all your hair so all the kids have one more thing to make fun of you for...and to make it even worse film it and publicly display it on youtube for all the world to see'....seems a little more cruel than creative, but I guess that does take a little creativity to think up such a thing. I mean what was she supposed to learn...'you're an ugly b*tch everyone hates'?

Also you say he acted heavy handedly and probably overreacted yet fail to see any issue? you don't think perhaps those two things might have been 'issues' I mean was it a regular occurrence for him to act heavy handed towards her and over-react at her? If so his treatment of her could have very well been a factor in her suicide. You might not think public shaming of a kid is an inappropriate punishment but I think most might....i mean making a kid make ammends is ok but trying to tear them down in front of people is pretty disgusting even if you don't think so.
