When viewing profiles, some members' usernames are written in black while others' are red. Does this mean anything?

I just noticed this phenomenon as well. What does it mean?

It might have been an old function to designate Veteran users that no longer works since the last update.

No, the colour differences started with the new version of the site. They weren't there on the old one. I'm an old veteran user but my username is not red.

Okay, I've just realised that there seems to be a direct correlation between having a bolded username on the board index and a red username on the profile screen. Those whose names are not in bold have black usernames, and the moderators are green.

It has to do with registration date (according to what I read here and a little investigation on the 'find a member' function). If you joined between 2 Feburary 2012 and 21 November 2014 your name should be red / bold (with the exception of Alex), though there are some who joined on Feb 2nd who aren't bolded (something must've happened that day). The time of registration all appear to be the exact same for all bolded users too, regardless of date. The last bold user to join was aptly named ReigstrationError [sic].

I think I answered my own question!
