Star Wars has made an indelible mark on pop culture, especially in US cinema (for better or for worse). It's because of Geoege Lucas' franchise that moviegoing has become so mainstream. It's sometimes easy to forget that other great works of fiction came out in theaters long before Jedi meant anything to anyone. That's why I started this thread, so everyone could discuss or simply list their favorite motion pictures made before the premiere of A New Hope (May 25, 1977). I'm more familiar with animated works than live action movies, and I'm relatively ignorant of fictional media from outside the US (save for some examples of Japanese animation), so I'll list works from the Disney Animated Canon that I remember seeing on VHS or TV:
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
Pinocchio (1940)
Dumbo (1941)
Bambi (1942)
Cinderella (1950)
Alice in Wonderland (1951)
Peter Pan (1953)
Lady and the Tramp (1955)
Sleeping Beauty (1959)
101 Dalmatians (1961)
The Jungle Book (1967)
The Aristocats (1970)
Robin Hood (1973)
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (March 1977)
I like a lot of those movies too. However, I'd also like to add It's A Wonderful Life, Fantasia, Mary Poppins, Planet Of The Apes (1968), and A Clockwork Orange.
