Alan Rickman, English actor known for playing Hans Gruber and the infamous Severus Snape has died.

I also know him for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Judge Turpin from Sweeney Todd, Galaxy Quest, and Absolem the Caterpillar.

I loved him in Galaxy Quest. Rest in peace Dr. Lazarus of Tev'Meck, "By Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Warvan, you shall be avenged!". We will get a cure one day :(

I thought the judge from Sweeney Tod seemed familiar...he just looks so different from the role in Harry Potter, but now you mention it the voice is definitely the same. That is sad though, seemed like a decent actor.

I like Alan, plays a great bad guy, and came across as a sweet man.

I loved him as Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility, plus he was also great in Love Actually.

Even though I sensed something was up when he all-of-a-sudden married his girlfriend of 50 years, this news shocked me. (Now I know he married her because he was sick, and he wanted her to have a say in his medical care.)

Such a shame to lose such an extreme talent----nobody does "bad", better!!

R.I.P. Hans Gruber and Professor Snape. (Wow, that's at least THREE people from the H.P. franchise: Richard Harris, Richard Griffiths, and Alan Rickman----and Maggie Smith, who's still kickin', is way older than all of them, I think.)

I saw this earlier today but didn't even click on the link because I forgot who he was, I know him more by face than name, ugh. I loved him in Die Hard and more recently Snow Cake. I'll have to watch one of those later in his memory.

R.I.P. Alan Rickman

Very sad.

One of the great male voices.

Lucky for us that he left such a rich body of work to enjoy.
