Given the cost of medical care, universal free or subsidized healthcare for the less fortunate is a good thing. Not for procedures such as plastic surgery for purely cosmetic reasons, but certainly for dental treatment, mental health, hospitalization and the like. You wouldn't feel comfortable with people dying because they are refused essential health services, would you?

Where is the money going to come from to pay for all of these "essential" health services? Don't forget that all of the illegal aliens will be getting benefits as well. All of the takers are not contributing to the system. So how is it going to be paid for???????? I keep asking this and no one says anything. Nothing is for free.

Healthy people contribute to the economy. The money will come from increased taxable income, and from the money we currently pay to insurance companies. Our system is the worst possible way to do it, and the most expensive. Just like riding the bus is cheaper than having to buy a car and car insurance.

What is going to have to happen is the people that have good healthcare now will have to give that up to have mediocre healthcare along with everyone else just so everyone can have healthcare. Less than 50% of the population works and puts into the system. I need to look it up, but my Ma said that Russia is trying to get away from the socialist way because it isn't working. Socialism never works in the end.

Oh, I'm actually quite happy too - after what happened last night.

I'm nothing like your father. I would have straightened you out about many things you falsely believe. As for last night, you would be...

You just made me laugh. Anyway, you should be glad that I'm not your mother, otherwise, you would have been over my knee a long time ago......

Does anyone remember the movie, A face in the Crowd.
It was a political movie staring Andy Griffith?
It was an older black and white movie, about the TV face and behind the scenes truth of a political candidate. It seems to me that each 4 year seems to have repeated scenes. Though this last year has held lots of surprises.

Dear Nursy, no one needs billions. If they contributed proportionately to the economy there would be no shortage of funds to assist the less fortunate. The only reason socialism doesn't usually work properly is that the leaders want more that their share of the cake and feel a sense of entitlement. A mixed system works best I think. Both systems (capitalism and socialism) have been abused.

You sound like fun to know. We could debate over a cup of good coffee!

What is a mixed system?

Just in from Drudge!

Oh my Lord! I'm LMAO!

Exclusive: President Fox Apologizes, Invites Trump to Mexico - Breitbart. http://tiny.iavian.net/a58r

Trump better watch out - they'll put him in a Mexican prison! Or hand him over to the Mexican drug cartels and we'll find his head on a stick at the Mexican border!

Angie,

A mixed system would incorporate the best elements of socialism and capitalism and attempt to have safeguards that would eliminate abuse.

Countries such as Sweden and Iceland seem to be very well run compared to the US and what's more they have a very high proportion of female legislators!

I wouldn't say that Sweden or Iceland are that well run, there is something of a Nordic socialist myth in this country

we've had a 'mixed' system from the beginning

We aren't replacing good doctors with mediocre ones, this is only about the costs. Socialized health care is how most of Europe does it, and they can't understand why Americans are so incompetent at it. I say it's all ideological, because our corrupt politicians on both sides are not working for the people, but rather their donors. Limited democratic socialism works better than you think. Profit should not be a factor in public health.

Look at the UK .. they actually have "waiting lists" and people spend months to be treated, then to see a specialist, then to further treatments. Americans are too rich to tolerate such third world type of medical care. There would be outrage.

In the UK, as of "June [2015] this year some 3.2million people were parked on waiting lists".

How can this be considered good and acceptable health care?! You'll be dead before you see a freaking doctor.

The US is now replacing doctors with nurse practitioners. I started a thread on the subject. Would you go to a nurse practitioner?

Middle class takes financial hit in most US cities this century - FT.com. http://tiny.iavian.net/a8y4

Mr. Aw is doing such a fantastic job of what he intended all along - getting rid of the middle class.
