Hi, my name is Sarah, and I recently took the aspie quiz v4. The scores I received were a mix of aspie and NT traits, and it did explain a lot of my experiences growing up.
Recently I came across the following article on girls with autism-spectrum syndrome[/url] , and it was chilling how accurate it was (with the exception of the point about being taken advantage of. I have been described as an excellent judge of character.).
I am college educated, work with data, am married and have a small circle of close friends that I cherish. My husband will often tell me when I go too far with details in conversation with work colleagues and acquaintanes, so I guess I have had him act as a social interaction mentor. A close friend of mine in high school helped me with social cues in a similar fashion back then.

I am very glad to have come across this forum. I had heard of it years back but didn't think I really fit in here, and that I was merely socially awkward. Some recent events have led me to realise that it's not accurate, and the awkwardness is partly due to my life experiences and partly due to belonging on this spectrum, even if it may be mild. For example, I have sensory processing disorder type symptoms in terms of sound, but not with respect to touch or sight. I also have no issues with eye contact, and in fact, prefer it, as I can read people's eyes well, but struggle with body language cues.

I hope to take part in learning more coping mechanisms and get better with socially interacting in large groups with less anxiety.

Thank you for your time in reading this.

Sarah

So I was skimming the "Posts since your last visit" filter and thought I saw, "Eye-catching titties"...

Welcome, Sarah!

Is your husband NT?

Hi Jean,

Lol, I wouldn't write that in my intro, but that's the nature of suggestion :P
Yes, he's very much an NT. I had an interesting conversation with him recently about how I read people based on their eyes and clusters of body language signals. He, like most NT people, does this automatically and thought it was strange that I had to break things down that much.

Hi,
I think we all have difficulty with the social graces. I'll pass on a good tip I learned over time. Normal people don't like discussions about bugs or icky things during meals. They must be a little over-sensitive or something.
If you can't find a niche to fit in, make your own.

This is so true. I try not to do that anymore, but sometimes I can't resist making my husband's face squirm by talking about tapeworms in the brain.

I find the brain eating ameobas interesting. I mean how do they know how to get up in there? Why don't they get lost and end up in the pancreas or something? They must be a lot smarter then we realize.
