There might potentially be a temporary "martial-law" type of situation in the locales where the troops are stationed; however, the law which the people there are living under remains the non-martial civil law which they had been living under for centuries.

Unless the troops are given specific powers to arrest people--especially if laws were enacted which are specific to the immediate situation--no "martial law" exists.

We had troops in NYC after 9/11---but we were never even close to being in a martial-law type of situation. The power to enforce laws remained with the New York City Police Department. The troops were only there to serve as a sort of "backup."

If military personnel are given the power supersede the authority of the local police in enforcing the law, there could potentially exist martial-law conditions.

We do have troops on the streets sometimes. These would have been "Obama troops" I guess.

Technically, I think the inauguration day guard were also "Obama troops":

I think you're right, though, if it were Trump to order them in someplace domestically it would be treated as a bigger deal than it has been in the past.

Open borders save lives. In the grand scheme of things, terrorism is insignificant. If you're happy to let people die so you can say you "stood up to terrorism" then your priorities are completely wrong.

I don't see the caveat "This does not apply to Moderators, though".

It's obvious that NurseAngela gets on your nerves (hence, your "Our New President... Macron" thread), and I totally understand that NurseAngela's posts can often come-across as "the sky is falling"-type----but, I don't feel you can tell her her "priorities are completely wrong", because they're different from yours; you can say you disagree with what she said in her post, but.....

Who gives Mods TOSes, when they attack someone----or, are they above the law?

As an American yourself, you must become totally unconscious from laughter, then, when the least-informed non-Americans keep telling US what's going-on in our country.

I just heard on NBC Nightly News that the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, is now, officially, part of the FBI investigation into whether anyone in the president's campaign had any collusion with the Russians. They made a point to say, though, that he was NOT being charged with anything, or that he WOULD be charged.

People of the Right, check out more from ThinkProgress. They constantly went after Obama from the Left.

Re: Kushner. They didn't say he wouldn't be charged, they declined to say whether he would be charged. He doesn't have to be the target of the investigation to be charged, if they discover evidence of a crime. He could lose his security clearance for less.

Meeting and talking with them in person, I manage to contain myself. There are indeed better and worse informed people everywhere. I don't feel quite as ashamed on their behalf, though, as I do with my fellow Americans. We have every opportunity to become well-informed.

Look it up on the internet. They must have brought in special forces. I would like to hear more about this "out thinking them" approach.

I've know that Bobbys are unarmed for years.I don't need to see that online.Sure did see plenty of armed British cops on the news.
Do you think we will defeat them by stupidity? Hell, with thinking like that we've already lost the war.

Only special police forces are armed in the UK. There are some positioned permanently at various sensitive places around the country but otherwise something big needs to be going down for them to arrive somewhere. Met Police are slightly different as they are run separately.

I live very close to a special place of interest (AWE in Aldermaston) where police guard it with machine guns. As kids we cycled past giving them the finger and then claiming to other it had resulted in guns being pointed at us.

If only Pope Francis treated dictators with the disdain he showed for President Trump.

The pope just plain sucks, imo. I wouldn't have spent even 1 second of my time visiting that doofus.

I think it's amusing and fascinating watching the world leaders trying to stay serious when Donald Trump is making a speech. They understand how he is, how he's personality works and his lack of intelligence. That's why this is working so far, they know how to deal with him

Trump's visit is good news for one person, at least. Boris Johnson will come across as lucid by comparison.
