Far left, dyed-in-the-wool revolutionary Socialist. I make Bernie Sanders look like Rush Limbaugh.

Far right in some ways, far left in some ways. strong supporter of radical reformation in some ways, strong supporter of tradition in some ways. individualist and collectivist at the same time. probably considered an anarchist by most people.

That very last one works for me.

All I see when I look at political stuff happening is a bunch of old and rather self-centered people vying for power and arguing alot rather than actually accomplishing anything at all. Frankly, you could replace basically every single politician with a dead frog, and you'd get more usefulness that way.

....Also there's the whole tribalism aspect (look it up). People dont vote on various issues by thinking out the issue logically and making a decision. They just look to see which of the two stupid labels is on it and pick that way, because OMG political partyz R so important!! !!111 How.... how does that even accomplish anything? What useless pile of morons came up with this system?

And then even worse than that, people who think they're "making a difference" (imagine me doing sarcastic air quotes there) just spend half of their freaking time arguing about politics with others, despite that these arguements A: do nothing and B: do nothing. Oh, and C: do nothing, cant forget that part.

There, that's my rant. Normally when I do a rant it's MUCH longer. But most of what I think of politics can be summed up with a facepalm. And a shockwave.

i like this. i have *some* hope that those in power are able to seriously consider a reasonable viewpoint coming from an "opponent:, but on some days i have to wonder whether that is totally misplaced.

i wonder what effect a mandatory dissolution of political parties every X number of years would have.

i feel like most of them start out as a coalition/alliance between people who share the same ideas and reasoning, as you might be describing, that eventually get wrapped up in themselves and then shift their focus on getting themselves in power, instead of the issues at hand.

yeah. when i registered to vote, i was asked whether i wanted to identify as a "democrat" or "republican".

just had to roll my eyes there. selected "neither".

Wth does "Other" mean?

"Other" is someone who's political beliefs may contain elements of both the left and right, and/or elements not associated with either end of the left/right political axis.

Independents, Libertarians, Socialistic Authoritarians, etc.

That does seem to hold true since the majority of people in the world seem to compete for power and rank. There are reasonable people but just like us they are shoved out by the loudest, and usually most ignorant, voices. Until such a day comes when people value truth and honesty above their own desires I think all politics will descend in a similar fashion. I do believe that depoliticizing government entities would also help. I look at the US and find that having every position have a political affiliation only serves to drive a wedge. People adopt a point of view, not because it is well reasoned or true, but because that is the view put forth by the party they support. If judges for instance were forced to drop their political labels then people would be forced, in a way, to be more objective about their rulings. It would make aligning with parties without thought more difficult.

The idea of registering as a particular political affiliation seems very bizarre to me indeed. That in itself seems to lead to a system where two teams compete for power and influence and where they must oppose each other, not for the betterment of people, but so they are not seen to be "colluding with the enemy". The entire party system is just wholly wrong in the US and appears designed to serve the interests of the parties and not the people.

Daaamn! No wonder our society is so screwy!

People favour left or right wing ideas for no reason other than they belong to a left or right wing group. They should think independently rather than blindly following their "tribe".

Yep, pretty much.

The sad thing is that so very, very many people dont seem to want to do their own thinking.

Really, when I look at stuff like this, politics and whatnot, and watch how people behave, I suddenly understand where the sarcastic internet word "sheeple" comes from.

There's certainly exceptions of course, there's (probably) people out there that genuinely think about each given issue before making a decision, but usually you can watch people being really overt about the tribalism part. Like, if a "conservative" person finds out that someone nearby is "liberal" (I frankly have made a point of not knowing what either term means), they'll jump down that person's throat for no actual reason other than "they're not one of US, I must attack them". They dont even have to learn ANYTHING about that other person, or about individual things they did or did not support, or any actual important things: They hear that ONE WORD and the battle begins. It's pathetic. That type of person, to me, isnt ACTUALLY interested in politics: They're interested in being part of a group and getting that sense of belonging, and that sense of "better than everyone else" that goes with it.

Yeah. The trouble with tribalism is people think the enemy of their enemy is their friend. Not always.

I'll give you a personal example that I experienced. I got fed up with some of the more extreme feminists so I started watching these MRA themed videos on Youtube. Eventually I started thinking that MRAs are just as dogmatic as feminists.

MRAs and feminists will both oppose something good just because the other side is in favour of it.

Opposing something that would benefit you for other reason than the other side likes it is stupid!

They're both fear mongers, they both play the victim and both groups are sheeple, just going along with the crowd.

At the moment my political allignment is me and my own thoughts, not going along with some group like the liberals or the conservatives.

That's funny! LoL Yet, sadly true. There was a time when I didn't like being me because it meant being hated by everyone. However, to be like those people would be even worse. I've come to appreciate who I am and that I'm an individual.

I'm leftist although I would identify more radically previously (when I was 10 I used to dream with communism), I think as I started to get too exposed to politics (mostly in student environments) I start to doubt my own beliefs thru other's stupidity and dogmatism.

I still believe in left wing values, but I also believe in diplomacy and the need of an open and honest dialogue between all political views.

I do believe in a Estate who provides basic needs like education, health care, infrastructure etc. I value social equality, and I do priorize a social harmony over development.

I have some criticism to liberal-left, who put individual freedom above all, although I do believe in equality and I'm against discrimination, mostly I disagree with extremism and their methods and lack of contact with reality.

I still feel hated by everyone, not for my independant political views but for my lack of achievement. I'm trying to appreciate who I am as an individual, rather than someone who failed at realising the same achievements as other people (graduate university, buy house, etc).
