I often feel the same way. Many times after I leave a social situation, I go over the thing in my head repeatedly thinking about the things I could have said differently.
I could have written every word of this post about my own experiences socially.

I've said thing that I really shouldn't have. It happens a lot if I'm excited and have a lot of energy. I still cringe at some things I've said years ago and feel embarrassed around the people I've said it too.
ALL THE TIME. My dad told me to put my hand over my mouth before saying something stupid, but that didn't work, as it's out of my mouth before I realize it's stupid.

I'm not sure who said this ( I think it's origin comes from the Bible ) but one of my favourite quotes is "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt."

Yes, I've found remembering the saying "The less said the better" useful in important discussions, it reduces the likelihood I will say something inappropriate.

I encountered that proverb when Denis Thatcher used it... if it kept him safe, then it's worth remembering

Blimey! I would of been too scared to open my mouth at all if I was married to the Iron Lady
