Why would anyone BRING a pineapple to a rock concert?

And why would anyone ban someone from bringing a pineapple to a rock concert?

I guess pineapples have some kind of hip in-group meaning to some British rock music subculture that's lost on us outsiders.

But its not obvious to me how pineapples are anymore disruptive to public events than are any other foodstuff.

It's clear from the article why people would bring pineapples... it's a craze related to one particular band. On the other hand, pineapples are large, heavy and knobbly... I wouldn't fancy being hit on the head if someone started chucking them about.
