Quote:
For many years, Skinner was a gym teacher at his alma mater, Robert E. Lee High School. Before coaching at Robert E. Lee, he taught at Glynn Academy in Glynn County, Georgia. He was also a basketball coach at Stillwell Jr. High in Jacksonville. Several members of the band Lynyrd Skynyrd, including Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, and Bob Burns, were students at Robert E. Lee in the 1960s. Skinner's strict enforcement of a policy against long hair inspired the members to name their band after him. The group reportedly changed their name after Skinner sent Rossington and others to the principal's office for wearing their hair too long. Over time, Burns, Rossington, and other band members developed a series of running in-jokes about Skinner and ultimately decided to pay "tongue-in-cheek homage" to him by renaming themselves "Lynyrd Skynyrd."

This looks like it's actually the story of a transsexual 4 year old. The question is, did the tiny child decide on this or does the mom prefer a female offspring?

the point is that the school is in the wrong for shoving square pegs into round holes.

Ha! I had no idea... that's awesome.

As for the article... people are dumb. I know a few mom's with boys who grow their hair long and then donate it. And even if they don't donate it, who cares how long someone's hair is? Like the mom in the article said... hair length doesn't affect learning... :hmph:

I believe that community and school just wanted to turn out obedient little binary [male OR female, no trans-anything] drones with no individuality.

I'm guessing the policy was in effect beforehand.

So how far should policies of this kind be relaxed do you think? What if a 4 year old decides they're a Furry and want to attend school wearing an animal costume?

to the extent that at least one appropriate school in a district exists. short of that, the school district should not be allowed to be so exclusionary. the stress should be on education and not on externals.
