I found out that my uncles financial abuse was worse than I thought... Bills in our name without permission... Car insurance ive been paying doesnt even cover me (i looked through his papers) AND my uncle even withheld our mail from us and we didn't know about a redetermination and our food stamps and medicaid were cut!! ! I literally took a few things with us, drove to a relative three hours away that already knows about how my uncle is AND WE'RE NOT GOING BACK!! ! Wiish me luck please!

Now, next thing is, please tell everyone in a position to help, exactly what-all he was doing, tell everyone about the financial abuse.

Report it to the welfare department or whoever you deal with, report, report, report. Make it very clear that you have been a victim of financial abuse and control by this man.

The appropriate help can come then.

Even worse! My husband is appealing his SSI case... He had me call them... They sent correspondence 6 weeks ago "we failed to respond to" and missed a hearing and we would have to totally start from scratch!! ! How could anyone do this???

Oh, that's awful -- this is because your uncle held back your mail from you, right?

You know, if I'm not mistaken that's actually a crime too, to hold onto mail that belongs to someone else and keep it from them knowingly.

Have you let them know the reason why there was no response from your husband was because of the situation with your uncle withholding mail?

Good on you for getting out! Never, ever go back unless he gives beyond-a-doubt proof he won't do it again... in other words, unless he tells everyone what he did and that he's sorry and why he knows he shouldn't do it again.

I'm starting to find it really hard to find help... Adult protective services was uninterested in helping us... We're still stuggeling to try to get our food stamps back... Any apartment complexes we could actually afford have HUGE wait lists... I dont know how much longer these relatives will tolerate us and we are disrupting their lives... Im hopeless...
