I've been giving this a good deal of thought: I don't want to have any celebration of my birthday this year. No gifts, no cake, none of that. This will be the first birthday without my Mom, and it's going to -- pardon my French -- suck ass.

On Facebook, I'm thinking about having my friends donate money to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (inspired by a friend of mine getting donations for a local animal shelter for her birthday).

I find that to be sad. The donation is laudable, though.

How would you feel about making your birthday a tribute to your mother?

I didn't realize how extreme I was until you brought it up; that being said, making my birthday this year a tribute to Mom sounds like a good idea.

Indeed, it does!

That is a really good idea. Sorry about your moms passing.

Just to clarify: I only brought up this topic because my Dad wanted not just me, but my sister, her husband and my nephew (by extension) to give him our holiday gift lists ASAP. I know, three months ahead of time? Things have really changed...
