It feels lonely... because the feeling of pleasure or pride lasts only a second, and then you are left to "celebrate" yourself all by yourself.
If you truly are better, smarter, more talented, etc than your peer group, being put on a pedestal only segregates you more, and sometimes just the fact that you are better makes people dislike you. I don't think anyone should ever hide their skills or talents, but I think its vital to not let yourself get puffed up about it. Always try to find things about the other people that "even the playing field" so you don't accidentally get pompous, and take time to really notice other people's strengths and compliment on them about it.
