Honestly, as an adult who went to see the movie in 1989, you can’t beat the original. From the animation to the voices and great moments of the original

While I love Hallie Bailey and talents, I am not wild about what I saw in the “Under the Sea” video on YouTube.

1. They didn’t have other fish sing with Sebastian
2. The CGI and the effects look very fake
3. I love Sebastian’s voice actor, just not his design

I beg to differ, I think the current one is a big improvement on all fronts.

So it’s really a good movie? I saw some clips with Melissa McCarthy and thought they made a good call in picking her to play Ursula. Now they did a good job with her special effects too.

Despite the review bombing prior to the movie release, IDMB have given it a 8/10
Not bad for a Disney animation

Yes she's a good pick, another possibility might also have been Rebel Wilson as I think she plays a better narcissistic personality type.

I would have never thought about Ursula as narcissistic but that’s probably true.

Ursala craved nothing more than taking her brother's crown
Power hungry
spiteful/vengeful
vain
self-centred
cruel
lacks any empathy

Wow! she should run as candidate for the 2024 GOP leadership

I plan to see the movie on June 15, 2023 with a friend. I'm looking forward to it. I don't see this friend very often and though I did not initially plan to see the film, I enjoyed the trailer.

 No comment.

In terms of narcissism. Flotsum and Jetsum are her flying monkeys . That’s because they always have someone to do their bidding for them.

I just got home from seeing The Little Mermaid.
I saw the original when my sons were little, but I don't remember much about it.
My friend did not see the original, and sort of did not realize it was a music.

We both were impressed by the underwater scenes. I was also impressed by the above scenes and the ship at stormy sea scenes.

I liked parts of it, but I kept feeling like I missed parts, which is entirely possible. However, as is I felt I was expected to get from A to D by skipping B and C. Still, I seriously may have missed a couple key scenes.

I may go see it again. I hate coming away from a film thinking some of the details were missing when in fact they not have been. I may have missed some subtext or a look during a scene.

I can say I was awake till after midnight last night and woke up at 5 this morning. That's not enough sleep for someone my age.

Yes I agree. Secondly this was a false flag in the criticism of the movie. People claimed the underwater scenes were not authentic and the CGI was no applied properly. I personally found the CGI to be seamless and I think some people were expecting to see the mermaid's hair to be floating underwater or to resemble Avatar. Firstly both Avatar and the original Little mermaid are animated. This remake was using real people in CGI so I can't see where critics were basing their reference point upon?
