I think you're OK KitLily. I'm not sure we'd have a lot in common IRL because I like getting drunk and partying but that doesn't mean I wouldn't chill out at your place and have a brew with you. Hypothetically you understand.

I think you're okay too! I probably need an extrovert friend tbh. I don't drink or party unless I know everyone there. In the past I used to have lots of parties where I knew everyone but those days are long gone. Those were at school, university, my parents house etc.

Everyone wants empathy when they're inadvertently stepping (or even knowingly stomping) on toes.
People are less forgiving when it's their own toes getting stepped upon.

I do all the time, including on WP!

My main stressor is our governor, Greg Abbott, and his far-right policies.

90% of the time you're centre-left.
The other 10% you'd make Stalin a little uncomfortable. :P

Sometimes people expect empathy when they are not willing to do the work of attempting to apologize and make amends, and in that case it's hard to be forgiving and empathetic. But then again, sometimes it feels so awful to have lost one's temper and to have said harsh things that it becomes hard to imagine how to apologize or how one can possibly come back from it. So instead of apologizing, one might slink away or even, paradoxically, double down. I'm not saying one has to forgive someone who does that, but also it might be good to find it in ourselves to reach out? I'm not sure.

Abbott is the worst. I try to keep an emotional distance. If my health was better, I would be involved in activism, which really does help, emotionally at least, though not necessarily in yielding actual results.
