I can remember people ordering something called barley wine. I don't even think they'll sell such a thing in most pubs today. The kids would spit it out

MOST regular pubs don't sell it here. Some hipster craft beer places or tasting rooms at microbreweries might. Usually it's only available in a bottle. It is sold in liquor stores, and I'm sure there are several different brands/options, but it's definitely a very low volume seller. Not exactly anyone's "go to."

Nice Drop Of Shiraz

I can recommend the 'Nice Drop' range from Asda supermarkets for people in the UK. It's somewhat astonishing that you can still buy a 75cl bottle of drinkable wine for £4.25 in this country with our tax regime and after the recent bout of inflation.

As well as the Shiraz, they do a Merlot, a Sauvignon Blanc and a Pinot Grigio. A Cabernet Sauvignon from this label might be worth trying, but I don't think I've seen one.

^ Thanks for that, Rossall! Presumably there's no demand for this particular item in our local Asda, otherwise they might stock it.

Shared a bottle of cleanskin cab sav over dinner last night.
It was surprisingly decent for the price.

I'm just trying out another of Asda's Nice Drop range, this time their 'Trebbiano Pinot Grigio'. They also do a standard Pinot Grigio. This one isn't bad, has a slightly tarty or acidic touch which isn't at all unpleasant.

According to Wikipedia, the Trebbiano wine grape is one of the most commonly planted in the world, but I'd never heard of it.

Had a couple Innis & Gunn mango IPA’s at the beach last night. Pretty good over all, no complaints, but not exactly mind blowing amazing or anything so won’t likely buy them again unless they’re on sale as they’re $3 each + tax/deposit for tall cans. Priced similarly to other flavoured beers, but if I’m gonna pay the premium for some flavoured beer or another I want something that I really really like.

The prices are getting ridiculous these days. I mean I don't know how much it costs to brew beer but I can't see that it justifies the cost on the customer really

How about this for ridiculous - Aldi has just reduced the price of a 4x400ml pack of Guinness Draught from £5.00 to £4.99.

Really going to town on the discounting, then.

Also, you could buy a 500ml bottle of Aldi's own brand cider for 85p a year or two ago, but I noticed a couple of hours ago that it's now £1.49.

Stonks. With deals like that they're gonna run out in a jiffy. :skull:

It’s almost all taxes here. The government pays like $3 for a bottle of rum and sells it for $32 or whatever. It’s just a massive tax collection scheme, not alcohol companies charging high retail prices.
