This one f's with my head because of a certain party across a certain border.
There was also one more for the road.
Actually more than one.
It was even playing at the time, so that makes it worse.

It's "happy sounding" and danceable, which caused the problem in the first place.

Gotta love that view of the ocean, too.

Not a break up song. The Lido shuffle is about mobster or gangster who serves his term in prison, gets released, but ...just HAS to commit one more crime (a hit or like that)...make some quick cash...not get caught...and then...live the straight and narrow. Or maybe he just dash for the border.

It's all there in what I said.

I guess thats one way to interpret the lyrics. I doubt that thats what Boz had in mind when he wrote the song but there is no law against shoehorning one's own experience into the lyrics. Hard to find an existing song that fits a reality in your life perfectly, but you can come close. I have never really had a "break up". But I had correspendence with a penpal that had an emotional intensity that felt like a break up when it ended. One of the "Wrongplanet crushes" I told you about that time awhile back. A young lady in a different country on a different continent. A brainy aspie gal with a lot of potential...who just needed a little TLC and understanding. When she got angry and broke it off a lady friend told me "you didnt do anything wrong. She is just crazy". Just more evidence that she needed TLC...kinda like the guy Sarah Mclaughlin addresses in this song at 2:10 in rather colorful terms!.

It doesn’t have to be a designated breakup song. A lot of the stuff I posted isn’t, either, such as Don McLean’s “Vincent.”

As I said in my OP:

Any form of art can can be meaningful to the viewer and listener, even in ways the artist didn’t necessarily intend. That’s part of what makes it so fantastic IMO.

My response wasn't based on the lyrics. It was based on the fact it was playing when my partner cheated on me. They were dancing and drinking across a border from me.

Perhaps it should've raised some red flags that the most romantic moment with my ex involved slow dancing to this song in a laundromat. Now when I hear it, I don't think of romance.

Sorry, I assumed it was infamous enough to be known on reputation alone.

I lived under a rock and didn’t listen to that type of music. I was homeschooled. I mostly listened to classical/folk/pop, so no, I never heard of it.

My ex would flip out just like that when he was on drugs especially. He’d get paranoid that I was cheating on him even though I wasn’t.

He’d flip out over other things, too.
