There is someone else on this site from Australia. Think Australia must have quite a few people living there?

Hi! What led you to seek a diagnosis?

Hi! What led you to seek a diagnosis?

I basically burnt out and needed therapy. My son was diagnosed when he was 7 (he is now 15) and his diagnosing professional at the time suggested I get assessed. I didn’t really have the head space/capacity to follow through but did research, although mostly so I could be a better parent to an autistic child. Through that research I came to recognise not only my own but other family members’ neurodivergence. As I’ve gotten older I’ve found myself less able to mask due to exhaustion. Increased anxiety and stress etc and really not coping with life. I’ve seen psychologists previously but they haven’t really understood me and their methods never worked. So I knew I needed to see someone who was experienced in high masking autism as it presented in females. I found someone and was diagnosed with both Autism and ADHD.

That is so similar to my situation, minus the kids. My wife and I have been together for 33 years but neither of us wanted children.

But several members of my family seemed like they were autistic to varying degrees.

Welcome, from another late diagnosis older AuDHD woman with a neurodiverse (adult) child.

There seem to be a lot of resources for Aussies. Makes me envious!

Glad you're here.
