I wouldn’t consider the look you are describing as “grunge.” It could be different depending on the country, I suppose.

Yes, it was pretty much the article of clothing, other than a raincoat, for any depiction of Seattle. Especially if worn with torn jeans.

It’s a stereotype and fashion trend that exists, or at least did.

Several years ago I noticed that a bunch of gay amateur models from Eastern Europe would appear dressed like this in their photo shoots and selfies - possibly because it was fashionable at the time, and Also possibly because they were just playing up the stereotype and seeking attention from people who fetishize it. I dunno - but not matter which way you slice it there were a lot of photos of young men dressed like that.

It might also be a bit of a retro fashion trend. I remember a scene from the bankster documentary “Exit through the gift shop,” about the one crazy artist who made a bunch of money buying up 90’s track suits in Europe and importing them to LA and selling them as vintage clothing.

Track suits have never been a thing in the US. I guess it's part of football culture which doesn't really exist here. If you see people wearing track suits in the US, your first reaction will be that they're foreign. Probably Middle Eastern.

Flannel never went out here.
Paired with camo or Carhartt jacket.

Strange that they’d never have been a thing in the US when they certainly were in the 1990’s in Canada. :?

You sure? The USA is a big country. Could have been a thing all the way down the West Coast (where the weather is nicer and people dress in athletic clothing more so than the colder climates - just like Canada) and never hit the middle or East.

Korn worn them a lot too, so some nu-metal fans adopted them.

Korn got them directly from Run DMC though, and are pretty open about it. :nerdy:

Personally I've always been a big fan of the full track suit, but I sometimes wear the jacket with other pants too.
