My money in the trust fund ran out, I have no more money until my sister sells her house, she bought her house with mine & her son money. I don’t know what to do. My sister been paying my rent & bills, she didn’t pay my rent this month, I got a letter in the mail. I’m all alone, I have NO help, I’m not an adult, im a child, I HATE that I cannot be responsible adult. I’m crying now. I want to die.

You need to get yourself in a position where you are less reliant on your sister, since she doesn't sound very reliable. Especially if where you live depends on her.

Hi kitty - you should be receiving disability benefits, or perhaps your sister was, on your behalf:

https://www.forbes.com/advisor/legal/disability/california-permanent-disability-benefits/

If you need someone to check on & sort this out, so that you’re in control of your own money in future, would be best to contact them & sort this out. There are advocates who’ll help you, if this is difficult for you to deal with. Maybe try contacting your local Autism Society for assistance.

So sorry you’re going through all this. Help is out there so try to remind yourself, everything will be ok. Just need to ensure that whatever you’re rightfully entitled to, is being placed into your own personal bank account (if your sister was appointed your legal guardian, then you may need to seek advice on having that decision overturned).

She's posted before that she receives some sort of disability benefits, but her rent far exceeds 100% of disability benefits so the rest was paid out of an inheritance from her mother that her sister was to manage... but mismanaged.

Thanks goldfish. This will likely mean the need to be granted emergency new accomodation then. I’m only familiar with how these things are handled in the UK, & have a family member who is at the same level of need as Kitty. Here in the UK it has seen them living in a shared house, but thankfully due to their level of disability, they receive enough financial assistance from the govt to survive. This is in London. So, my heart goes out to Kitty & I wish I lived closer & could help by way of offering her a room until all this was effectively sorted out. Citizens Advice Bureau for advice & assistance moving forward & there should be support available via the local autism network over there. Others will have been in a similar situation & some people/families may have set up their own organisations to help people in dire straits such as this. The Autism Society over there would be able to offer advice & help I would hope.

A direct link for Kitty to use, outlining her present situation & getting some help:

The Autism Society’s National Helpline is a fantastic way to learn about resources and services in your area. Speak with a trained Information & Referral (I&R) Specialist about desired resources and support options. While the Helpline isn’t able to provide direct services, the I&R Specialist will connect you to resources and providers that can:

She might be able to get some sort of advocate to communicate with, and MAYBE they can pull strings for some sort of housing due to her various disabilities.. but the housing situation in California is beyond dire. The homeless population in just Los Angeles County is over 75,000 people, over 181,000 people State wide. There is ~no housing available there for people who need it. Wait lists for some form of government housing stretch several years long. Tens of thousands of people are living in tent cities.

That doesn't mean it's hopeless. There might be some housing reserved for people who are deemed too physically disabled to survive alone on the streets. And it might be her Last Choice before being homeless, but there is also the possibility of living with her sister and nephew - even if just temporarily before the house is sold and assets divided.

But it's certainly not as easy as calling up a government housing agency and requesting a room in a shared home. Otherwise there wouldn't be 181,000 people living outdoors. Similar story here with nothing available and welfare/disability rates not even coming close to covering rent - just fewer people as California has about 1.5M more people than all of Canada.

Just a quick thank you, goldfish. You’ve given Kitty the best of advice in all your posts here that I’ve read & are an amazing support to her.

You’ve brought me up to speed on what’s happening over there. Have been researching & learning since you posted. I was in California and did have a very heartwrenching experience with a pregnant homeless woman over there, years ago now, who was in hospital in the bed beside mine, with the same condition. They were going to release her back out onto the streets, still as sick as I was, which made me feel so helpless. I was unable to speak up & help as I could not speak, as was too ill. It haunts me.

Dear Kitty - thinking of you & hoping for a positive outcome housing-wise ultimately. Family mis-management of funds in this way is sadly pretty common. Meanwhile, I hope you’re able to connect with others locally, that you have food supplies from one source or another. There is support out there. I hope you discover you do have other family members who can help. X

Hi blitz. They used to. “ The CABs in the USA used to be widespread but no longer as widespread as CABs still are in the UK. Only major American cities seem to have them. Those that still exist — which may or may not be called “citizens advice bureau” — have volunteer lawyers and paralegals to give general legal advice.” 2018. It looks as though they no longer exist, but below are a few contacts for free advice.

I wish I have more money, I have money in my CalABLE (CalABLE is for disabled people, you can keep more money in there) I told my sister I can help with my rent for February, I wish I don’t have to use it, but she need help with my rent. This is all her fault, she should have sold her house already then I would have more money.

It is her fault. She never should have bought a house with your money to begin with. She doesn't seem very responsible at all, which is why when the house is sold and your money is returned you should have a professional manage your money so she can't misuse it ever again.

Thanks for being on my side, I don’t have too much support. I wish my cousin can open an account & give me access then I can be in charge of my money from the trust fund under my cousin name, I can also have access to my electricity & gas, she in charge of that too, she never asked if I needed help.
