This is the part of his speech that's problematic

"Francis stressed that such blessings should not be given in a liturgical context. The document says they should be delivered discreetly and never with any of the pomp or ceremonial accoutrements found at weddings."

Translation: We love our gay brothers and sisters but they are still going to hell :roll:

More so: We're happy for you, but we'll never officially sanction your relationship because we're afraid of losing the homophobes in our congregation.

I dont ask the Pope to stop being Catholic. Just to be tolerant. Which this particular pope is doing a rather good job at.

We have to wait until...God sends a revelation...for them to change the actual religion...in any substantial way like that!

If the Pope saw a burning bush outside his window...walked up to it...and heard a voice coming out of it saying "same sex marriage is now okay by me." THEN the Catholic Church could modify its actual teachings.

The above is a reference to Moses BTW.

The Pope cant just decide to have his own opinion about it (like a democratically elected POTUS or prime minister can) and then campaign for it in Congress, or in Parliament .

Verbal denials can be ignored as long as the change is ongoing

^Yes. The Pope may well be doing all that he can to effect positive change...but has to do it "under the radar" of Catholic doctrine.

Dude...you're shooting yourself in the foot.

Your stats apply to the US which is a majority Protestant Country. American "Christian Nationalism" has nothing to do with the Roman Catholic Church. In fact American Christian Nationalists ...got to be that way...because they fear those brown folks crossing the southern border from Latin America...and those Brown folks are majority Catholic. So if anything American Christian Nationalism is anti Catholic.

Though...the KKK did recently ...decide to start admitting Catholics (for most of its 150 year history the KKK was as anti Catholic as it was anti Black and anti Jewish).

Ahem, my Comment was
About the LGBTQ Issue

In the United States;

And More Specifically my Locality;

NOT Christian Nationalism;

The White part of the Statistic
Is only Incidental in this Context;

Yet if You Don't Think Conservative Catholics, Including Priests,
Aren't Against 'The Brown Folks' Crossing the Southern Border, in General,

You Haven't Been to the
Catholic Church i Visit

Here in This Locality And Heard the Priest

Fear Mongering About Immigrants
Crossing the Southern Border,

Probably to Satisfy His Target

Audience Down Here in 'Trump
Town' USA, Hehe; Or Just Because

He Watches
too Much
Fox News...

On The Other Hand,
We Do have Some Issues With Immigration now;

Yet The Catholic Church Ain't the Place to

Argue Against Feeding and Clothing Immigrants

At the Southern Border, at Least not according to 'The J Story'...

Okay.

So Catholic priests, in the US, have to compete with Evangelical Protestants and Mormons for the same Xenophobic crowd.

Hmmmm

At Least Where i Live

in The Really Deep Trump South;

Yet i Understand That the Overall

Catholic Demographic ACross the

United States is About 50/50, Liberal and Conservative...

Hehe, So It Likely Makes a Difference

If You are a 'Biden Catholic'

Or A Catholic
Who Lives in
The District
Down Here Where
Matt Gaetz is the Representative, hehe;

Indeed, a Fascinating
Place to Study

The Human 'Condition'..;)

Speaking of ...the intersection of Catholicism and American politics...

what became of old Rick Santorum?

A Catholic who was also a culture warrior.

He is still alive. But you never hear much about him anymore.

That too. The liturgical context the pope is referring to is "eternal damnation". What is taught to catholic children happened to the people of Sodom and Gomorrah can be conveniently applied by the clergy and their flock to the LGBTQI community as "god's decree". So you can bless the person but if they begin relationships with their same sex they are damned.

I imagine American christians back the 1800s would have referred their children to bible quoting the sins of HAM (Noah's condemned son) when explaining why black people do not have a soul so it's ok to enslave them. You can bless them with as christians but don't expect to see them in heaven.

I suspect a lot of American christians still think heaven is only for straight-cis white people. God's chosen ones.

A note to LGBT minors: A trustworthy adult will never ask you to keep a secret or be "discrete." If a priest is telling you to have discretion, run.

His current claim to fame is having a bodily function named after him.

I learn as much vocabulary from the Urban Dictionary as I do from Webster's.

Not really a bodily function, just a frothy byproduct of buttsecks.
