Another chris chan question

So, was wondering, why did chris chans parents treat them the way they did? Why did they act so overprotective, coddley, and narcissistic? Dont parents realise that this causes more harm than good?

What would parents do, when, they were born before the internet and are raised by parents who are very likely struggling from some collective crap in the past, imagine, at least 3-4 generations from now; around 70's to 30's -- how would they react towards their own children growing up, in say, in the 90's? 2000s? 2010s?

How about that era's knowledge in autism combined with it's methods in parenting?
Not to mention other things? How about the geography and it's economical status and it's norms?


Otherwise, I do not know that person's parents' stories.
They could have an ACE score of 0, they could be raised from hell for all I know.

There was no such thing as the Internet when he was a small child and his parents couldn't afford parenting classes.

Why is the OP obsessed with Chris Chan?

There is a myriad of reasons as to why Chris Chan's parents treated him that way.

- They were much older than your average parents.

- They grew up in a time when disabled people were shunned and/or locked away in institutions.

- Chris, being "high functioning" gave his parents that sliver of hope that he could have a normal life. He could read, write, talk, and was fairly independent. However, he struggled a LOT and his elementary school wanted him to be placed in special education. His parents refused, probably being uneducated, and already faced the stigma of being parents of a disabled child. They switched schools where no such program existed and Chris had to be with your average student. While Chris assimilated, he was never taught the skills he needed.

- I guess they wanted to try being decent parents to Chris since both Barb and Bob did not have relationships with their grown children. They were terrible people.

- Maybe they did realize it. Maybe they didn't care. Who really knows? All I know is that it leads to...now. And Chris' story is not going to end well.
