Just watched a TV add for cremations, and they said "We have a money back guarantee so if you are not satisfied..."

Makes one wonder if the company advertizing cremations knows what a cremation is? How can a cremated person get their money back? Is the company mad? :D

Money back if the body has not been properly cremated?

Family is who they meant. But thinking it meant the deceased is a very autistic way of interpreting that commercial.

That's the sorta thinking that makes people tell us you're so funny while we don't actually get our own (unintentional) joke.

This is the kinda thing my girlfriend would get confused & she'd laugh about it with me once she understands  I find it funny that they would even mention a money back guarantee. How many families have complained about a body not being burned up enough

Yes I suppose they mean that the money goes back to the family.

But I expect there's a catch in the terms and conditions, otherwise everybody would be onto it - just express dissatisfaction, and those hefty cremation fees are returned. Unless it's one of those things that people would feel was disrespectful to the deceased. Personally, if my loved ones told me they were going to do that when it was my turn to pop my clogs, I wouldn't feel miffed. And as I'm secular, I'm pretty sure the deceased wouldn't care one way or the other. My only worry would be that no matter how carefully you read the terms and conditions, there'd be a risk that they'd somehow not do the refund.

I once heard that if you refuse to stump up for a family member's funeral etc., the State has to do it, and that contrary to popular belief, a so-called "pauper's funeral" isn't particularly nasty. And yet, I've never heard of anybody doing it that way. But there must be lots of people who just don't have the money for these things. What do they do, take out a loan and suffer an income cut for the rest of their lives?

I think the state just cremates the body. The family does their own thing for a funeral, asks a church or other group to help out, or just does nothing.
