That nearly works, but if observing Lent is about making sacrifices that hurt, then giving it up for Lent would be a pleasant relief, and so it wouldn't count as a painful sacrifice.
I did once remark to somebody that I'd do well at Lent because fasting doesn't bother me so I'd be really good at it. But my listener angrily replied that it was supposed to be a punishment.

It wouldn't be a pleasant relief if the person was such a masochist as to deprive themselves year-round, enjoying it.
