Loretta Lynn - “Don't Come Home A-Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind)"
Well, you thought I'd be waitin' up when you came home last night You'd been out with all the boys and you ended up half tight Liquor and love, they just don't mix Leave that bottle or me behind And don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind
No, don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind Just stay out there on the town and see what you can find…

Eyes blue and hollow As it rains against their will Feathers falling out of the pillow As if time is standing still I can't remember much more But I know it happened quiet So quiet Words falling out through the window All that remains is a silent call Is the earth colored red? As I land like a flower on the meadow Love is wild
You fell apart Like a stone can be broken into sand A thousand pieces Spread across a crying land And you can't remember that day But you know it happened quiet So quiet
Words falling out through the window All that remains is a silent call Is the earth colored red? As I land like a flower on the meadow Love is wild Ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh Ooh ooh ooh ooh, ooh, ooh Are our dreams as dead as they seem? Are our dreams as dead as they seem? Don't you speak over my voice I will return from the shadows…

I’ve talked about this song before. I remember singing it with my mom when I was 5 as we were driving downtown to do some shopping. She was really struggling at the time and had to take parenting classes because of it. It meant a lot to have a happy, carefree moment with her. I knew the lyrics, so we must’ve had the cassette. Whenever I hear it, I think of my mom.

I've got money in my pocket I like the colour of my hair I've got a friend who loves me I've got a house, I've got a car I've got a good mother And her voice is what keeps me here
Cardboard masks of all the people I've been Thrown out with all the rusted, tangled Dented, God-damned miseries You could say I'm hard to hold But if you knew me you'd know I've got a good father And his strength is what makes me cry
Feet on ground, heart in hand Facing forward, be yourself
Heart in hand, feet on ground Facing forward, be yourself Just be yourself
Good Mother Jann Arden
For my mum - Because I love her whether she believes me or not.
