There is another loss from the original series and the great movie series too. James Doohan died at his home this morning reportedly suffering from Pneumonia and Alzheimers as well. He was a great actor, coining numerous funny one liners on the show and movies, as well as his accent. It's too bad the new shows are trying way too hard and will never equal the first series or The Next Generation.

"Aye, and if my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a wagon" (Star Trek III: Scene where the prototype starship USS Excelsior is first seen)

I was sorry to hear of the death of someone who has brought me so many enjoyable moments. It's hard to see him go.

Considering I'm a Trekkie, I'm surprised I hadn't heard this till now... 8O

James Doohan was actually a British actor, he put on the accent for the show.
DeForest and Jimmy are gone... I wonder who'll be next... (rather morbid curiosity)

I don't know how The Next Generation survived, it sucked in it's early years. I've gone back and watched some earlier episodes and about the only saving grace they had was Patrick Stewart's acting... But I'm a Trekkie, so they're automatically better than any other non-Trek out there :P

My fav series is Deep Space Nine.
