I can do music by tapping on the computer desk. :D

Can anyone else do this?

I don't do this. I usually just play a soundtrack in my head, whether I'm at my computer or not.

I'm an aspiring drummer but I don't have a kit, so I do this all the time just to practice playing different rhythms with my four limbs. Also if you hit different parts of the same piece of wood you can get different tones.

I am of the mindset that any surface or tool or anything can be an instrument. Just start tapping, kicking rhythmically... you're making music.

What I really like to do though, is find strange ways to make 'pitched' sounds. On a mechanical pencil, those bic ones with the rigid clip... you can tap the clip. If you vary where it is tapped you can make different pitches.

On one of my sombreros, it has a string to hold it up. I stretched out this string and started playing around with it, pulling it tight and finding pitches in it's vibration. Then trying to make a melody or something interesting... out of the sound.

The best thing about tapping, you don't even need anything. Your body is perfect for making rhythmic sounds. I have a large belly, good for bass sounds, snap to make high sounds, tap my pocket for add a metallic sound.

I do this, but rather I flick my teeth. Changing the shape of my mouth, and can make any a tune while on the go! No lessons required!
