Well, if they pick the sort of people they usually pick, you will have avoided being trapped for weeks on end with people whose sole aim is to do your head in. And the rest of us will (at least in theory) have an extra hour or two each week to devote to some-or-other worthy activity.

[/looking on the bright side]

I once considered nominating myself for Big Brother, but decided against it on a number of issues, namely boredom, socialisation, and the lack of control over my image. However, I do know one of the contestants from an earlier Big Brother show. She works at my uni.

Thanks blue_bean! :D

That's true SleepyDragon, but every year I find myself putting myself (there's gotta be a better way to say that) in the situations I see on Big Brother and thinking to myself (okay, now I'm not even trying) I could handle that a lot better than these idiots, or what are they complaining about, I could do that in my stride!

It's only since coming to WP that I realise all the things that I know I could do better, are things that we Aspies can sometimes do better.

The real world stresses me out. I hate going grocery shopping. But if I had to live in a white room for two weeks eating nothing but porridge, I'd just go with the flow. I can't keep a job, but I could handle the isolation from friends and family that seems to cripple some housemates, and I'd not even break a sweat. And hey, if I can choke down meat gristle (one of my most hated sensory aversions) and crack a smile when a friend asks, "do you like the steak, I'm not much of a cook?" I don't see the difference between that and slamming back a fish eye or toad vomit or whatever they get us to eat in the exact same way... I'll even crack the same smile. Hey, my Mum's cooking is worse than anything they could throw at me!

I'd love to show people that the things that make us Aspies different, can also be the things that make us better suited to some situations!

I guess I'm still obsessed with this, huh?

Heh! There are worse things you could be obsessed about. :)

In the end it'll come down to what will make the biggest televisual impact, in the eyes of the powers-that-be. Controversies, jittery sponsors, flat ratings - the longer the series goes on for, the more of an uphill battle it is to keep the viewers there.

If you do get in, it will be fun and instructive to see you handle all the silliness with perfect aplomb, one eyebrow slightly arched, while everyone around you is going batsh*t and running around shrieking. 8)

Yeah, plus I think it'll be the reactions that I give to people.

Female HM: "Oh my God! Can you believe what Amy said to Nick about me being two faced? What's up with that?"

Me: "Yeah. She's simply trying to exert dominance over you in this group. She knows that Nick is likely more popular and so she wants him and the public to like her and hate you."

Female HM: "But! But... She said I was two faced!"

Me: "I know, that's the beauty of it... You are two faced! So it works, see?"

Female HM: "I... But... ..."

Me: Walks away whistling...

Anyway... I've found out that a couple of people are actually using paid advertising to get people to vote for them. So I don't know what the point of even having videos is.

They should just scrap the whole system and think up something better.

What was the address you lived at in auss and how do the numbers on the houses or whatever run?

I liked your vid :D

I liked the homeless scene

It has been used already... ;)

But.

They run normally... 1 2 3 4 5 etc. Why not just google an Australian address. Look up a company or something and use their street number, suburb, city but change the street number? ;)

I'm sure it won't matter too much.

i meant odds on one side evens on another.....

well, your idea works better, i just try to make things more complicated then they have to be i guess

I'll try to put a vote in for you even if it does seem hopeless!

I would vote for you, big brother. But, I'm an Alaskan. I bet you'll get the honor anyway since you've shown ability, enthusiasm, and genuine interest. Good luck!

Man, I wouldn't wish that on my worst Aspie-enemy: living on top of each other, under constant scrutiny. Sounds like the recipe for non-stop meltdown. :?

Enjoyed your clip though. Best of luck!

Thanks! Yeah, it's good if a joke is funny a couple of times.

Cheers!

From the Big Brother website:

Quote:
What will happen next?
The Top 3 candidates (subject to Terms & Conditions*) with the most nominations will go into the Big Brother House in 2008! That´s right — you will be selecting three Housemates! The following 50 people will be invited through to the second round of auditions — and will have to impress the selection committee!

There hasn't been a mention of prize money yet either, AFAIK.

No, no mention of prizes. It's possible there will be no prize money, though they said that last year and all it meant was that they handed out just as much money, but in a different way. I don't care if there are prizes or not.

You see that the Top 50 get invited through to the next round of auditions. I'm not even in the Top 100 yet and I have until January 7th to try to change that.

Buckley's and none is a phrase that comes to mind.

Wouldn't it be really hard for you to havce to live in a secluded house with a number of strangers, exposed to the general audience live? I would freak out, I really need my personal space and my privacy, and that's something you can't afford in Big Brother...

Meh, real life is full of difficulties and stressful situations. The Big Brother house has stress and discomfort common to both AS and NT housemates, people understand why you might have difficulties in that situation, but think you're crazy if you can't stand going to a rock concert or do grocery shopping in a crowded supermarket.

I'd have less stress on BB than I would doing a normal 9 to 5 job. Of course my Asperger's is different to the next Aspie's Asperger's which is different to the next Aspie's... That's one of the things I'd like to show. The media isn't getting the full picture as to what AS is, they have a few examples of very limited indivduals, many of which are fictional characters, and we are getting painted as a bunch of Rainmen and Jerry "Hands" Espenson's.

We need more people like Daniel Tammet to shift people's perceptions, not because of his mathematical abilities, but because he has learned to interact and come across as a highly sophisticated and charming person. This isn't to show people that all AS people are capable of doing this, but rather that some of us can and thus we shouldn't be judged simply because of the syndrome we share. Also, being able to communicate (albeit superficially) like an NT isn't the yardstick of ability itself, it is only a means to act as a translater to NT people. So we can tell them that many Aspies and Autistics have valuable and amazing gifts that get overlooked when people believe things like, "if they can't talk, they can't be thinking anything."

If I am elected, I promise...

Wait, what am I talking about again?
