My guess is that they will parasitically exploit yahoo to force people into silverlight.

Microsoft will buy yahoo because they are afraid of Google. just like they went out and bought rare. Rare was a company that made video games for nintendo.

If they buy Yahoo i wont use Yahoo anymore because i refuse to use microsoft products.

Google's responses to this have been pretty funny.

1. We'll help Yahoo financially to escape MS
2. We'll provide Long-term financial support to Yahoo IF they outsource their searching to us
3. We'll counter-bid - not because we have any chance (illegal) but to push the share prices up.

Even if MS gets yahoo, I think it might kill them.

I don't think it's a good idea for Microsoft to buy Yahoo.

I find quality of Yahoo products to not be very good. They want to do everything and they are always behind a site that focuses on one topic.

Anyway, I think microsoft is just a nuisance to software industry. The fact that they think they have to buy Yahoo shows how much they are afraid of Google.

I don't have a Yahoo account but I've heard people say that the mail and IM capabilities are great.

Gmail and Google talk are great too.

I have hotmail account and it's absolute crap - especially since MS updated it - They updated it and made it much, much worse.

How do the yahoo fanatics feel about their yahoo mail being converted to windows Live (dead)?

I would keep my yahoo account, mostly because I use it for garbage, (like registering on sites I am not too confident about)
