I will be going to a shrink very very soon. I don't want to go, but my mother has decided I have a chemical inbalance....when I went to the doc for my headaches friday she said I probably have a panic disorder....but anyway. I'm afraid to go....I don't really like talking to pl I KNOW let alone spilling my guts to complete strangers....I want to die.

You were diagnosed with AS, right? You have SPD(like the story you said earlier where you can't stand the noise in the cafeteria..), right? Gee, you sound perfectly normal with those two considerations.

Oh well, maybe the shrink will find out, and/or be reasonable, and just tell your mother the obvious. You SHOULDN'T have a problem. RELAX and be honest with the shrink, and be yourself.

I've been seeing a therapist off and on for about 8 years. What I've learned is it's important to find someone you're comfortable with. If you have an option to try different therapists, I suggest you do so. Staying with a therapist is like marrying someone, you gotta find someone you are comfortable with (with an outlook on the long-term). As aspies, we often find that difficult in general (being socially comfortable), but remember, the therapist office is a controlled, private environment. You have more control and freedom in there than out there in the real world. It's an opportunity to be yourself and finally tackle some tricky issues in your life. Like any scientific or belief system, therapy is not a perfect answer to life's problems, but try it out. If it works for you, then great. If not, try something else. Also, don't be "persuaded" to start taking medication unless you've really thought about it and decided to bear responsibility for the choice to try medication. Medication is a big step with unforseen negative/positive consequences. Good luck.

My 9 and 7 year old sons see a psychologist who works at an Autism/Asperger's specialist clinic.

They love seeing her! However, it took some time for them to trust her.

It will take you time to trust your shrink and rightly so. There are good shrinks and there are absolutely crap ones.

Maybe you could ask your shrink what their experience with Asperger's is.

Good luck
