Just be respectful. Do not interrupt, do not raise your voice. If the other person does, when they are finished, remind them of what they have done and tell them you'd like to keep the conversation respectful. That fixes the problem 90% of the time in my experience.

i honestly don't know if i'm lonely. i have a bunch of acquaintances, no real friends though. the thing i'm having trouble with is that, despite the fact that i really want a friend or two, i don't know if i'm lonely.
why are you lonely? is it because you don't have friends, don't have acquaintances, don't do anything social, etc.?
