Here's a list of a few must-see foreign "art films":

Suspiria (Dario Argento) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076786/
The Tenant (Roman Polanski) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074811/
Alice (Jan Svankmajer) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095715/

BTW, "Alice" ranks among being one of the most bizarre movies you will ever see.

I haven't seen any of those. I, however currently have an Australian film called "Picnic at Hanging Rock" that I just recently heard of and decided to get. This is supposedly the most famous movie to come out of Australia. I want to get another movie as well by the same director who directed "Picnic at Hanging Rock" called "The Last Wave". These movies sound promising.

Hanging Rock is mostly famous because it was the first Australian movie to be successful overseas. The director is Peter Weir who is well known now for; Dead Poet's Society, Witness (Harrison Ford) and Gallipoli. By today's standards, hanging rock is a little slow.

Australian Films
Comedy: Muriel's Wedding, The Castle, The Dish, Crocodile Dundee, Priscilla - Queen of the Desert, Young Einstein

Kids: Babe, Storm Boy, Blue Fin, Happy Feet,

War: Gallipoli, The Lighthorsemen, Breaker Morant

Drama and Action: Mad Max 1-3, The Plumber, Wolf Creek, Razorback, Lantana, Dead Calm, Dark City, Japanese Story, Jindabyne, Romper Stomper, Rabbit Proof Fence, Newsfront

Arthouse: Bad Boy Bubby, Bliss

I like all films really, both the popcorn or mainstream as well as independent and foreign films. I agree that independent and foreign films are definitely better made though. Half of the movies I rent are independent, or some obscure lesser known film.

What's the difference between Indie and Arthouse?

Pretensiousness, that's what! Arthouse movies will make you feel stupid whether you watch them or not. An indie is just a movie without Hollywood money to promote itself.

I will watch basically anything that neo-fascists find offensive.
