Some folks see disagreement as a form of personal attack, and some of those folks are more inclined to say "Fudge Off" than ask for an explanation.
Such people are more trouble than their friendship is worth. If you want them remain your friends, then you will eventually find yourself either lying, compromising your own values, constantly apologizing for thinking for yourself, or any combination thereof.
I'm not saying that you should act as if your friend never existed, but that you would do well keep your distance in order to maintain your own identity.
