Seriously, what's so exciting and important about them anyway (especially right now)?

Oh you are kidding. Seriously?
You don't care about wars, conspiracies, break-downs, incompetence, profiteering, scandal or cock-ups? How about that your pension, buisness, and bank-account has been pissed up a wall by people who have made an obscene amount of money in the process? Are you catatonic?

they are because the events of today determine the future, even the most obsolite.

Let's say queen victoria was assassinated as a virgin, two hundred years later over 5000 royals would be butterflied away. One death can dramatically change the world. So would that even be a "big deal" to the peasents. even one single change can change the course of events in the future.

I see lots of people talk about current events, movies, TV shows, etc for pleasure. I always pay attention to current events that I find the most interesting or shocking. You should work on this in order to enhance your social skills.
