I do. If I'm stressed, my main way of stimming is to vigorously turn my head, ususally to the right. It looks like a kind of twitch or tick, I suppose. For a long time, I was pressurised not to do it, which, frankly, made the anxiety worse.

My wife's mobile phone ring tone. I repeat the whistle instinctively within a second. I think its a Samsung Galaxy. Can't help it. I even do it unprompted in bars. People look at their phones sometimes thinking they have a message.

I get this in shopping centres and supermarkets; I feel a sense of panic when Im shopping alone and Im constantly consciously thinking "dont approach me, leave me alone, dont speak to me, please just act like im invisible and not here." Its easier if my wife or one of my kids (not really kids now, t...

What " I am the Catalyst" says does make a lot of sense to me. Cutting is not anything that I'm ashamed of, it satisfies a need that I cant explain but just know that I need to do. I dont so it much and I have never done myself serious damage with it, but the need feels real and makes sense.

I love that I can live as a ghost. I can lock myself in an office at work and just exist, as far as the outside world is concerned, on the end of a text message or e mail. I love appearing not really to exist at all and not having to inter act with anyone in a physical context. I can simply exist as...

I have had a number of difficulties, but I cannot really be sure how much is due to asperger's and how much is just what i would have been like anyway. Maybe the asperger's is just masking natural incompetence, i cant tell. However, the main problems have been these: 1. I tend to believe what I am t...

Thanks mad man. It was a career i sort of drifted into by accident and I have to do it for only another two years ten months. it will pass soon enough and i will definitely hang in there. But as you posted the question in the first place, Im very happy to answer any specifics, unless the posts have ...

Hi, i have been a police officer for twenty seven years. I was diagnosed with asperger's about nine months ago. It might explain some of why im not very good at my job. Or it might be that im genuinely incompetent, badly organised and poor at social interaction, irrespective of the asperger's. I wou...

Thanks crystal, you have helped me to feel normal. Im a police officer, but i have now been assigned to desk duties. I like to work evenings and weekends because it allows me to be alone in a big building. I can be locked away in an upstairs office doing my work. As far as the outside world is conce...

absolutely. its the main thing that causes me problems, the need to withdraw after interacting with others. Social evenings are a nightmare when your partner is gregarious and sociable when all you want to do is go home and be alone

My wife would get very embarrassed by any of my behaviours that i unconsciously felt the need to do, such as twitching or my way of twisting my arms around my head and she would tell me off. I found it so stressful to have to suppress it. After i was diagnosed, i think maybe she relents a little now...

andyfzr, i know what you mean, i was very reticent about sharing my suspicions with anyone. One or two people had suggested it in semi-jest but it was only after i had been formally diagnosed that i really had the confidence to tell anyone
