Looney Tunes are classic! Especially the Chuck Jones era. I am public with the more socially acceptable interests like bird-watching, although I have to remind myself to not deliver a college course-level lecture on them. I keep quiet about less acceptable interests--I research a lot of disasters--n...

Hi everyone, I've been feeling like there has been this anxious pressure building up in side of me for days. It's the same feeling I get before a meltdown. So far, the meltdown hasn't happened yet. I only get meltdowns once or twice a year, when I am overloaded, tired, or stressed out. I'm not even ...

Get checked out by a doctor too. Some medical conditions can cause lethargy and fatigue. I have a hypoactive thyroid and am occasionally anemic. Luckily, these are easy to detect with a blood test and easy to treat.

A study that tested neural activity in the brains of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) reveals that they successfully encode facial emotions in their neural signals – and they do so about as well as those without ASD. Led by researchers at Stony Brook University, the research suggests...

Those do sound like stims, although it's hard to tell where the line is between NT stimming and ASD stimming. Frequency? Unusual movements? It might be another one of those things that's on a spectrum. I agree that stimming is good for your mental health and that you shouldn't stop them altogether. ...

I'm not surprised to see that most people are saying they don't have savant skills. They are supposed to be really rare among autistic people (maybe 1 in 100). I would call my skill more of a "knack" than a savant skill: spotting visual errors. My mom said when I was a toddler, I would wal...

Wow, thanks for the list, Isabella. I haven't seen any of these, I'll take a look.

Hi all, I'm helping develop a website for my clients' Diversity and Inclusion program, which has a lot of info about different minorities and encourages people to accept and welcome people from different backgrounds. I'd like to suggest some non-fiction books, documentaries, YouTube videos, podcasts...

Wow, that's a tough question (but a good one)! I've struggled to balance "be myself" with "fitting in with the crowd" all my life. Like many autistic women, I did a lot of masking and pretending to be normal, with lots of social scripts and practicing facial expressions in the mi...

the average neurotypical member of the population Likes when things different from them are are shown to be negative, dark, because that allows them to feel better about themselves ... I agree, but that pretty much goes against the entire concept of a Diversity and Inclusion program--to be acceptin...

I'll second those those that detest how our society taught us as children that we should always be truthful, and then ever since show us all the inconsistent standards that say that telling the truth is bad: * Answering truthfully when asked an opinion. * Misunderstanding the question "how are ...

I work in graphic and web design with some moderately difficult coding. My work has gone almost completely telework since the pandemic began and I suspect they may continue this even after it's considered safe to work in the office again (think of the real estate they are saving). I've found that ge...

My parents were both college professors, and my dad's father and grandfather were high school teachers. The consensus in the family is that my dad and grandfather were both on the Spectrum, although they passed away before autism was a diagnosis in the US. I and three of my cousins were diagnosed on...

Don't tell. Not unless you need disability accommodation, and even then, only if you really need it. It feels wrong to have to hide when there is nothing wrong with you, but people are ignorant. Some people are petty and competitive, and see any difference as something to exploit. Give it at least ...

I don't know who or what is safe, and everything feels dangerous. I don't feel like there is anyone who will help or protect me (partly because I was kidnapped wh...
