My name is Alex, which is what I'm known as to people who don't really know me. It's a name that stuck after I was hospitalised for some time a few years back. My birth name is actually Alice, which is what I'm still known as to family. Anyhow, I live in rural North Yorkshire, England. I was born an...

I personally believe that simply being vegetarian and eating a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables, complex carbohydrates, and drinking lots of water is as good as any faddish diet. I can not live without eating grains and starches or drastically reducing carbohydrates - my energy levels just plummet.

Sorry, where I said in brackets "personality which could just be their natural disposition" - I should have written "individual quirks or eccentricities which are likely to be part of their disposition, and not a so called illness".

It's late and I'm tired.

I'm another person who's been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. I'm now enjoying the unrepentant freedom of my un-medicated madness. No, not really. I do believe that I had an incredibly bad "nervous breakdown" of sorts, where I lost a grip on reality, but I have a ginormous chip on m...

I feel that I am more intelligent than a lot of neurotypical people, particularly those of my own age (22). As to whether that is because I retain information more consistently, or because I actually have a cognitive advantage over them, I don't know. My main ability which is accelerated is my langu...

A psychologist told me once that in general highly intelligent people are less prone to mental ill health as they are better equipped to deal with life's problems and the stereotype of the tortured genius is a myth. I'd say that's largely an ill-informed observation. The majority of people I know/h...

I think there is some good advice that has been given here already. The evaluation is simply talking to someone, (I know that in itself is not that easy) but there is no physical interference or any terrible consequence to fear. Really the worst that can happen is not that bad. It's certainly not wo...

Hi everyone, My name is Alex (I'm female), 22, from North Yorkshire. I decided to register on here because for a long time now I've had a feeling of being somewhat "different" to the majority of other people I come into contact with. I wasn't really able to put my finger on exactly what wa...
