I'm beginning to put less and less stock in labels.. Here's a quote from their book "Neurobehavioral Disorders of Childhood: An Evolutionary Perspective By Robert Melillo, Gerry Leisman": "It has also been noted that there is a similarity between autistic disorder and Asperger's syndrome and that As...

Is Asperger's considered a mental, psychiatric or more neurological or developmental disorder? I have experienced depression off and on my whole life.. I've recently been diagnosed with a personality disorder too, but I think it is a wrong diagnosis that was done too quickly by someone who only saw ...

I guess I should rephrase that.. I have NLD (mild Asperger's) and numerous physical problems. It's not that I'm concerned that MY country wouldn't let me emigrate to another, it's that with the wrong label being filed with the U.S., I wonder if that record with Social Security is made available to O...

Someone mentioned earlier in this thread that a diagnosis can basically be filed with the government and keep a person from emigrating to another country? Is there some way to find this information out? I was in the process of trying to get disability mostly because of physical issues, but the lawye...

Did the producers of the show know she was an Aspie in advance? or did they just think she needed to get her confidence boosted? She doesn't have the confidence the others seem to have... as in regular life, our Aspie problems so often undermine confidence. To be a model, they must exude confidence ...

I wonder how often a person goes to a psychiatrist (other than for a specific test, evaluation) and does NOT receive some type of prescription? I think that it is quite rare. They usually always prescribe something. I've personally never gone to one and had them NOT write a prescription. I've had a ...

Can Asperger's be confused with a particular personality disorder? If so, which one(s) might it be? I asked in another thread if anyone else had personally been misdiagnosed before or after getting their Asperger's diagnosis.. Now, I'm wondering in general if it's a common misdiagnosis? I had extens...

I was diagnosed with ADD too.. Actually the final diagnosis said I had ADD and NLD (mild Asperger's). It's so important to get a correct diagnosis so that it's treated right.. Alot of people have been misdiagnosed with bipolar from what I understand and had to take Lithium, etc.. until they realized...

Hi, I've finally been diagnosed with mild Asperger's (or Nonverbal learning disability). One clinic said mild asperger's, the other NLD. I'm wondering how many people here were wrongly diagnosed before finally getting the neuropsych testing and discovering it was Asperger's or some other autistic sp...

I have an unbelievably difficult time remembering names... it's crippling socially. Not only do I have the troubles picking up social cues, it's REALLY bad when I can never remember a name to introduce people.. .even people I've known for a while.. I have to really think on it for a while and then I...

I was diagnosed with Nonverbal Learning Disability by one professional, but was told by another that they probably would have diagnosed me with "Mild Asperger's". So, maybe that is similar to what the person was calling "Borderline Asperger's"? I have problems interpreting social cues, etc.. that is...

Does anyone know of any careers that are in nature, working with animals and not people? I'm trying to decide on a career that doesn't involve working with people.. ideally not much contact with a boss or co-workers.. The only job I found that was similar was over-the-road delivery work... but it wa...
