Woah, that is so cool that you called the parents and they reacted so well. What a relief. You are advocating for your son and that is the best thing ever! No, people won't always react the way we want them too, but sadly that is a life lesson. No matter how other people react your son will always k...

Irishkate--I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. We too have just recently had our 6 year old diagnosed with AS and it's tough. I can't imagine knowing that my son is suicidal, that is a huge worry for me. My son at 6 doesn't seem to be, but he is very interested about death and worries about me dy...

Serious Girl, thank you for your apology. I think we all get emotional when it come to our kids--they are our hearts, our lives.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I need to have hope now, that's all I can hang on to.

Serious Girl--I totally understand where you're coming from--not your life, obviously--but I mean that this is a serious matter. I am here because I'm trying to do just what you said--gather information from people who've been through it. I can see that you are trying to help by making sure people k...

Hey, let's not get nasty here. I know I'm only new and don't really 'know' people here, but I don't want to start any tiffs! First of all I am planning on finishing that book--I never said I wouldn't. I'm just stating a fact that it is painful. I resent even the implication that I won't try to do th...

Earth Calling--I do really like my son's primary school, which goes up through 3rd grade. He will get good services (if he qualifies for them, that is, but I'm thinking he will), I actually have a good friend that works there that can look out for him, and at that age kids are generally pretty kind ...

Thanks for your sweet apology, Bazza, completely accepted. I totally understand how you must get tired of reading the same old stuff...in fact I was just thinking about how I didn't want to get on here and just whine and complain. Plus catching people's 'jist' of things on line is always tricky. Goo...

Earth Calling--yes, I probably do need to help my son with more of the 'prep work'... in so many ways he seems so grown up and ahead of his age, it's hard to remember that he is behind, or just at a different place in others...or even just at the same place as an NT kid! I mean, so many of these iss...

Thanks, Hopeful...no, I haven't thought about either of those. All of this is so new to us, we're just starting the journey....! Of course in thinking of Tourette's all I can think about is someone yelling out obscenities against their will (thanks to Hollywood..!) and my first thought would be that...

Oh, Bazza, can you tell me more about the diet thing? I asked my ped about it but he seemed to think it's not usually something that changes much. Of course I'm open to anything and am the first to think that things are different depending on each and every child. Are you talking about just serving ...

Wow, thanks everyone for all of your replies. I can see I'm in good company here. It's good to be reminded that my son is emotionally 3, not 6. Hopeful, your advice seems helpful :-)...and I'd love to hear what else is on your mind! I do stay calm and I don't ever raise my voice at him, and I don't ...

Thanks for the welcome and the reply! I do offer him little 'rewards'...usually it's time to do something before school that he enjoys like watch a little PBS or have time to 'spin his coins'..:-)...it's one of those things that sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But usually I follow his lead...

Hi everyone--I recently found out that my 6 year old boy has Asperger's. In many ways I'd say he's pretty 'mild', but disciplining him is definitely a challenge. He talks back like crazy and gets so angry and frustrated when I have to remind him--every day--to either do his morning chores (bathroom,...

Hi Angie! I'm brand new here, too...this is my first post. We recently got the AS diagnosis for our boy who just turned 6. We too suspected that he was always a bit 'different' and even though our doctor told us we could 'wait and see' how things panned out, we decided not to wait and had him assess...
