https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10162553924190366&id=623945365 This could have happened to any of the Japanophiles among us. The student in question is Ingrid Martinussen, a 32 year old autistic Norwegian studying environmental science in Japan. Like many of us, she has no history of... |

What you guys are describing is fairly common. I've experienced it myself. If the therapist comes from a psychodynamic/psychotherapy background, they are trained to focus on people describing their emotions. Since this is one thing that autistic people do badly, therapists who don't understand ASD a... |

That's actually a pretty useful statement from her. Have you thought about why she might be holding back about a diagnosis? It might be because resources are limited, but another interpretation may be that she might be pressured to drop you as a patient if you get an autism diagnosis. It's becoming ... |

I think some autistics eat as a stim, while others avoid or are uninterested in food. Depends on your sensory profile I think.
Other than that I agree with the poster who said autistics are extreme in any direction. Anything we do we overdo. |

Make sure you are getting adequate sleep, as I find that the moments that I can't bear are the moments where I'm sleep deprived. Good rest gives me a massive amount of patience and endurance, from that point on, I try to reinforce the fact that people are flawed and we're dealing with a fallen worl... |

Sympathetic words don't come easily to me; but I've been told many times that I make a very nice cup of tea! You're welcome to join me for a brew. FWIW, I think you're right. When people know we're autistic, they can be very quick to read it into our reactions to things which they would struggle wi... |

I've been holding up for a while, but today I'm admitting to myself that I'm exhausted. I really wish life could be easy just for a short time. I'm really not asking for a lot. Just a little bit of normal life. On top of it all I have to deal with idiots who think it's an unfortunate feature of my a... |

Well, since we know that traditionally autism was diagnosed in girls mainly if they had a) very severe autistic traits/comorbids or/and b) low IQ, what the theory is saying is that the younger siblings of children with severe traits or low IQ are more at risk of having autism than the younger siblin... |

It's more about masking. I've masked a lot my whole life, to the point of total losing contact with myself and getting seriously mentally ill. I masked even more with my family than with outsiders, thanks to conditional love and other issues. Now I'm trying to unmask, to finally understand who I am... |

Lordy. Do they listen to Radio Maria as well? I completely understand you. I have similar issues. I solved it by pretending and lying through my teeth, although it is hard for me . It helps that I think lying is the kindest option. At some point these people will be old and can't excercise much cont... |

Go read the blog Musings of an Aspie. It's a really good resource, and she is married and has a child. See if it resonates with you. |
