Do any other Aspies out there have a difficult time with Facebook? I have an extremely hard time with Facebook. I have joined FB twice, quit it once and now have not signed into it for over a month. It's just too much information coming at me from too many directions at once. As Tony Attwood has not...

Anybody on the autism spectrum out there have brain imaging done? I would be absolutely fascinated to see how my Aspie brain compares with an NT brain. I know it's done, it's mentioned in the clinical literature. If you have had brain imaging done and your brain compared by a neurologist with an NT ...

I did the tip-toe and when younger the hop everywhere instead of walk. Have seen the pigeon walk that you speak of a few times and it never bothered me in terms of being too unusual. However, many young NTs will search out for anything that stands out from the norm (even slightly) and verbally taun...

Thank you everybody for your input. And for those who have not yet responded, keep it coming! Clinicians use different autism assessments for children than they do adults. Tony Attwood details most if not all of them. I think that all the assessments still need some work, although for adults in gene...

My apologizes, I hope you get what you want from this thread, I bid my farewell, I feel it is necessary to explain why I feel as I do about unsolicited advice. In the first place, I don't need to be told about autism pride―I made myself a f**king "Aspie Power/Autistic Pride" T-shirt for C...

I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome by Dr. Joel Jeffries of CAMH Adult Psychiatry and Health Systems, a clinical specialist on autism. I was clinically assessed using the definitive diagnostic tool, the Adult Asperger Assessment (abbreviated AAA) of Simon Baron-Cohen, a written test followed by...

I would be greatly relieved to discover that I was not the only one who did this. Why? Why would you care if you were the only person that did something? You should be comfortable in your skin and if you aren't, thats the bigger issue here. Not rather people think you do something odd or not. Its t...

Aspies are known for their unnatural or odd gait, and I am no exception. Others tell me that I rock back-and-forth when I ambulate; also when sitting. Not an unusual stim for an autistic. But the other one, the one that got me so sadistically victimised in high school and so brutally bullied, was wh...

Granted that the film could not be more amateurish or badly made, but both that and the martial arts scene are totally irrelevant. I want to know what people think of the way the Aspie is portrayed. How we are perceived by NTs affects how we are treated so we have to be concerned how autistic people...

Thanks folks for your responses. I was not referring at all to the martial arts in the film. I was centred entirely on the characterisation of the Aspie and how he was depicted. Pretending for a moment that martial arts was not part of this film, how do you think the Aspie was depicted?

One of the stereotypes of people with Asperger's Syndrome is that we are all math wizards. I am definitely not. In fact, I was put in the 'simplified mathematics' classes for the "slow children" (remember that I was born in 1955). I cannot even do basic arithmetic without a calculator. Am ...

Has anyone else seen "Revenge of the Aspie"? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_5tXd1SjQg No doubt it was made with good intentions, but I did not like it. Even though the Aspie wins in the end, and in the tiresome too-much overused terminology of the classic 'old Hollywood' film plot "...

Is Asperger's Syndrome the same as High Functioning Autism or different? I have encountered divergent views in my reading--some say yes and others say no. I wish to acquire a clear view of the matter with the help of everyone on this website. Please give me your thoughts.

As with any institution, CAMH is a mixed bag of good and bad experiences. Dr. Jeffries, who diagnosed me with ASD, is actually working out of what used to be called "The Clarke Institute" and which originally a separate entity from CAMH. Then amalgamation happened. Now it's all CAMH. The ...

I can relate to cats emotionally the way I cannot relate emotionally to human beings. When one of my cats dies, it's the end of the world for me; when an human friend dies, I can hardly push out a tear (although I do miss them and grieve for them in my own, different way). Feline emotions are better...

| @Punkrockaspie, I'm not surprised about CAMH, I've heard horror stories from parents concerning one of their children's clinics. A bit pedantic, but I believe the descriptive forms of ret*d are also valid as in, "The [advanced|ret*d] timing of the interrupt signal is causing it to go unnoticed... |
