I have found that having a therapist myself has aided me greatly in finding therapists and doctors when my son was in crisis. Normally, as earthmom points out, it can take as long as six weeks to get an appointment if you are a new patient. (Which is a crime in itself!) With the help of my therapist...

So true! Thank you for writing this. I've been on both sides, so what you say touches me twice. I will add when in a depressed state being listened to is so important. Sometimes it is not easy to just listen and not judge. Depression is not something to be solved quickly. I liken it to diabetes, a d...

I love Scarpetta novels! Addictive. Sad to say the current books on my bedroom table are Food in History by Reay Tannahill 1973 and The Hooked Rug A.W. Kent 1930 (Very thorough history and discussion of origin and evolution of the hooked rug.) I have very strange reading tastes. Range from mind cand...

Is the breaking off suddenly with no more contact solely an aspie trait or can it be the trait of another type of person (of who aspie and NT alike are subsets?) I would think there would be many reasons both aspie and NT would break contact/avoid another. Not sure I understand the above post. Pleas...

My goal in life is to have a team full of empowered 'aspies' that frequently put dents in the world :) Some day! Yes! Tarnish free, sparkly dents! I work in a building that houses a technology business incubator. Of the 14 businesses, I'd say at least three (they are all very small <5 employe...

I have dated at least two guys, maybe three with aspie traits. Like poster above said, frustrating sometimes, but if you can relate to their quirks, they are usually very grateful if you are not a typical NT. Similar sense of humor was helpful in romantic relationship. All of my favorite people, the...

Burn off the attitude tarnish, brush and polish up my sparkle. I have always gotten jobs from word of mouth. From co-workers and associates, immediate managers. It's the upper managers I tend to miff. I don't know how to lie and say what they want to hear......I can't even predict what it is they wa...

BTDT, Thank you!! I do have preconceived notions that my opinions and ideas are worth seeking out. They are worthwhile. Placing them in the proper place is an active rather than passive effort. Attitude really is 80% of it, isn't it? I can change my attitude. Have worked hard on that in a past life....

Everything about this post is 100% true. I wanna cry. ;__; Where's that so called Aspie Island people keep talking about. I want to go there. A place where you're valued for your skills, and not how well you can gossip. I realize this post/thread is almost five years old. And the economy in that ti...

Joining a support group after a long hiatus. I have been living with ASD for a long time, diagnosed late in life (about 10 years ago.) I am not in active crisis, just feel the need for support sometimes. Had a bad experience with a drama filled forum in the past. It was not ASD friendly. Willing to ...
