He's not in the school anymore?

Ignore it. Better yet, write them and invite them to sue. If they do so, they can explain to the judge how they let your son get out of control, and did not provide him with a safe and effective behavior plan.

You go be you! I totally support you in your enthusiasm for the holiday. I don't think there's anything wrong with a 19 year old in an excellent costume trick-or-treating. Your good costume should be a badge that you are not just mooching candy but really into the holiday. Here's a thought. I wonder...

Sometimes we all say or think things in our heads we don't mean right? Like say we wanna kill someone close to us or we hate them. I mean we don't mean those things when we say them in our heads right? I mean we're either stressed or our minds just wander right? However I feel like some of the thin...

Okay ---- eikonabridge? You have taken my opening statement completely out of context. I opened by saying I can be chatty with a smaller group of people or one-on -one -- but what I was getting to NEXT was this, my next statement: "But put me in more of a group setting, and I clam up exponenti...

Simplicity at it's finest lol. I hope my post does not sound rude or anything. Since I have the POV of also being autistic, I'm not offended at all. After all the times I was seen as less intelligent as I am, I kind of have a chip on my shoulder about it. I think these things are kind of like us sa...

I think most humans believe that they are more right and smarter than most humans. We are a fairly vain race. Autistic people are just more honest about it.

Yah. It's time to be concerned. Not panicked but concerned. Maybe if you share with your husband some of the advances in early childhood education he'll be more comfortable. The truth is that even if your son has a mild problem, getting him help now can set him up for entering kindergarten feeling c...

I've found body-inclusive therapies most helpful for this kind of thing. For example a therapist who works with somatics or who incorporates yoga into their work, or emotional freedom technique. The idea is that we can identify the negative feeling and start to do something to soothe ourselves befor...

Let the stims stay! Unless they are getting in the way of something your son wants. If it's getting in the way, help him figure out another way to fullfill those needs. One thing I'll add to help you understand the autistic mind. A lot of us appear to be more capable and confident than we feel. Adul...

I hope this doesn't come out as glib because I don't mean it to do so. Get some ear plugs. If you have misophonia, having ear plugs at all time really reduces your overall stress level because you know you have an out. I get them in bulk at uline. They come in these handy little plastic bags that I ...

I don't know if this is useful or not, but this is normal behavior for a 13 year old. There are so many emotions at that age! Their bodies are going through so much and their minds are experiencing giant leaps and a lot of new social expectations. It's a lot and it makes them cranky and hard to live...

Of course you can have autism and schizophrenia. What ever gave your doctor the impression that you can't? I've worked with several young people with both diagnosis. It's a ruff lot in life, to have both, but it does happen. Having one brain condition actually increases the chance of you having anot...

This is an old thread at this point. But lets not forget that "stimming" is normal behavior for NT kids too. Anyone who has chewed on his pen or tapped her feet has stimmed. And most babies that I know go through some stage of watching fans twirl. The difference with autistic kids is that ...

I'm a little concerned you have a depressed kiddo on your hands. Even though a lot of that is typical of teens, it's not normal. It's a sign of distress. Somehow we've decided as a society that it's just OK that a good bulk of our teen-ages are miserable. I'm not OK with that. It could be a really e...
