I have recently read a book by Laura James. Odd girl Out. She is married, has grown up children. Is a successful writer for magazines. She was more recently diagnosed as an aspie. Perhaps more people, including male psychologists, therapists and psychs should read it too.

Thanks Swordrat23. Your replying means a lot. I guess I'm trying to say that if you get the chance to be assessed go for it. Deal with the outcome when you receive the results. Talk to or with similar minded people when you get the chance. Nobody should have to be an island if they don't want to be....

I feel just the same, but am much older and was diagnosed with what i know is an inappropriate label within psychiatry. It was easier to try and fit another label than fight them. I didn't know what was 'wrong'. Now i don't have trust or confidence to go through the English NHS system. The only plac...

Hi. I totally relate to this. I am older still and in britain diagnosis etc is almost exclusively for much younger people. Support for adults is very scant. I cannot access any without a diagnosis. I am too old to get a diagnosis. Hence i have come to wp to learn to manage. It's preferable by far to...

Again stressful, but it's good you have the end result in mind. I guess you might be asleep now. Rest well.

Hi androbot. I am glad you are feeling a lot better and more in control. Wow, you have neighbours like i had till recently! They were moved out. It can be so unsettling. Plus with a job you weren't happy about. And probably an avalanche of other memories and anxieties. It's enough to cause a massive...

In relatively affluent countries, water in the home. Anyone remember emergency standpipes? And yes, public call boxes were vital, but those coins you had to feed them!! Plus of course buttons A and B.

I've only had positive responses to my posts by mods. No warnings or anything. So I guess I've not written anything inappropriate. If ever I do, then I would appreciate being told so. Thanks mods. I think you try to read as much as possible. I couldn't. There are things i actually don't want to read...

Hi Smudge. You have revealed individuality and other perspectives that I didn't think about before in your replies, and sometimes you voice what i think but don't say myself! It's good to see such diversity as people are individual characters first. Clinical labels come way down on my list. Identity...

Ok. I confess i am a relatively new 'lurker'. I am unsure how anything i write is or will be received. I am somewhat hesitant as my impulsiveness is sometimes careless and probably based on my own experiences or feelings. I have gleaned a lot of insight and help from reading the recent posts of thos...

In britain its simply difficult to legally own a gun. Whilst i admit sometimes i would have welcomed one to shoot myself with, i cant honestly say that i wouldnt have inadvertently shot someone else if they had tried to intervene. Nor can i be certain that someone else wouldnt have stolen it off me ...

You are probably right. I do apologise for the NT reference, but as to the rest I'd best just avoid. Sorry for offence.
