Not really. Never say never, but I have never liked anyone that way (been "in love"), I have even had any romantic or sexual feelings towards anyone (I have tried sex a couple of times but I didn't like it and I never even think it). And I can't really imagine life with someone else. If i ...

There is the same struggle going on in many language. And as it can be seen, not all natives agree with you (given that the writer above is a native). Here are also good points http://www.savagelightstudios.com/warpedlens/?p=113 And, most English-speakers are non-natives. So the majority doesn't get...

I understand that point. But I don't care what people perceive the word. It's their problem, not mine. Although I don't know many people who would see disease that way. It's just a medical umbrella term. People also perceive autism with lack of empathy, being simple, sociopath, rude, stupid... It's ...

Yes, I have been thinking it regularly almost for years and before that occasionally. I have also been diagnosed with several depression and had lots of difficulties in my life that are hard or impossible to help and that affect my mood. It would make it easier to live and cope with all the problems...

I rather say I have autism/autism spectrum disorder than I am autistic. I also say I have epilepsy, not that I am epileptic. I have depression, I am not depressed. I don't want to pathologize the diseases/conditions whatever I have. Normally most somatic conditions are separated from the people, the...

Because wikipedia defines disease as: "A disease is an abnormal condition that affects the body of an organism. It is often construed as a medical condition associated with specific symptoms and signs.[1] It may be caused by factors originally from an external source, such as infectious diseas...

As far as I'm concerned, a disease does not mean something you must catch. It can be an inborn and life-long condition as well as infectious disease. I don't want to maintain the stigma around the word disease. By doing so we only stigmatize diseases and people with them. It doesn't equal to plague ...

Ok, I disagree, but I'm cool with that. I see there are different approaches to this topic. Disease may sound more like an infectious disease, but personally I include most conditions that have a diagnostic classification.

I sometimes tell if the topic they are already speaking is related to autism and I have something to say about it. Or if I am having very personal discussiong with someone and it feels natural to tell. They don't react that much. Sometimes they start speaking me like I was an idiot and sometimes the...

In many cases, there is a relative lack of "objective signs" in autism, especially the milder varieties. And lots of subjective impressions. The diagnosis of autism is based on a similar premise as many psychological disorders. There's no "test" like a Pap Smear or a Tuberculin ...

Generally, a "disease" is "caused" by something like a virus, bacterium, fungus, etc. Autism is not a "disease" under any definition. Sometimes, it could manifest itself as a "syndrome," a "disorder," a "condition," and a "difference....

If it wasn't a disorder, then it wouldn't be a diagnosis. In case it's just a trait, a positive personal feature, or a gift, it's not a disorder of any kind. But ASD refers to symptoms that have a negative impact in life and that's why they have a diagnostic classification and code. If it wasn't a d...

Personally I wouldn't care what they are called, but sometimes it seems to be an issue and I have found it impossible to find a term that wouldn't hurt anyone. Condition sounds quite indefinite to me, I think it can to refer any kind of... condition. I have also heard the term "medical conditio...

That's true. But there are many dimilar diseases. I have idiopathic epilepsy. I was born with it. People with albinism were born with albinism. Other were born with heart disease or hydrocephalus. They cannot be cured. they are still diseased.

I don't think it's possible to find a name that wouldn't insult someone. While some people - including me before - find the word "disease" very insulting when it comes to autism, others think it's hurtful to deny the "disease" nature of a condition that they really suffer from. I...
